Portable Metal Cutting Saw

When it comes to cutting metal on a work site one of the most popular pieces of powered machinery is the petrol disc cutter.

A petrol engined disc cutter takes the form of a petrol engine (usually a two stroke engine) mounted in a housing with a guarded cutting disc. In addition this item of machinery will also have a fuel system, an ignition system, and a speed controller (usually a trigger or throttle assembly).

Most portable petrol disc cutters such as the popular Stihl TS410 model and others also feature a belt drive assembly. This allows effective gearing and a smooth take up of power allowing greater operator control especially when used on metal section cutting.

The most popular cutting disc size fitted to this type of machinery is of 300mm diameter, larger models however are available with the next size up being of 350mm.

Cutting discs usually are manufactured in a composite material like those used on portable metal cut off saws and hand held angle grinders.  

As mentioned, most portable metal cutting disc cutters are usually powered by a two stroke petrol engine. There are however a few electric driven machines such as the one marketed by Hitachi; the CM12Y.

This Hitachi professional electric cutter is usually purchased in a 110v configuration for use on building and engineering sites.
